In Focus: MMI Speaker Orlaith Cormican

Ms. Orlaith Cormican is a registered general nurse with specialist clinical experience in oncology clinical trials. Orlaith's current research interests are in survivorship in patients diagnosed with a chronic malignancy and haematology oncology, especially the management and care of patients living with a diagnosis of multiple myeloma.  Orlaith also holds a Masters in Chronic Illness Management and a post graduate certificate in Cancer Care and Haematology. Currently, Orlaith is working on a HRB Cancer Nursing Research Grant of which the overall aim is to develop a symptom management healthcare app for those with relapsed myeloma to enable them to self manage effectively.

Orlaith also recently attended the National Cancer Institute Cancer Prevention Fellowship Programme. The course covered the current status of cancer prevention research and practice, ranging from epidemiology and clinical practice, and from basic to behavioural science research. 

Orlaith has also been awarded a position as a PhD scholar on the SPHERE programme (Structured Population and Health-services Research Education) which she will undertake over the next 5 years part time.
